The new Grabo Pro, by RTC

The RTC Pro Lifter Grabo, has been a tremendous help with lifting our large dimension and/or heavy materials.

We absolutely love the latest version of the RTC Grabo - The Pro Lifter which has been upgraded to include a digital pressure monitor and automatic vacuum pressure maintenance. Lifting heavy and odd items like sheets or plywood or drywall, pavers or laminated lumber can be cumbersome and pose a danger of injury or damage to the material or property that we are working with. With the Grabo Pro one man is easily able to lift and set these items in place using the handle on the top of the suction device.

Checkout this short video of the Grabo Pro being used to lift one of our job site tables that consists of two 4’x4’ laminated sheets of birch plywood with T-Tracks installed: Grabo Pro Demonstration

We love doing tool, supply and material reviews to help make our jobs more pleasant to perform and help maintain the best quality standards in the home remodel and renovation industry.

Makita 40 Volt Tool Upgrade!

Makita 40 volt tools for the win!

Sometimes it’s the small projects that make us most happy. Our deck and carpentry projects have really ramped up this summer and since we love utilizing the latest tools to help make our job a little easier, we decided to pickup a few of the new Makita 40 volt power tool lineup.

This little project was used to test out the Makita Earth Auger for our pending deck projects. While we have traditionally utilized gas powered augers this handy tool showed no signs at all of not being able to handle a days work with us. The four post holes that were dug in the video took under 15 minutes and barely touched the charge on the battery.

We have been building fences, decks and paver patios this summer and look forward to having this tool on the job site to make quick work of footer and postholes. We also picked up the Makita 40 volt Plunge Saw with the 55” track and have the 39” on the way to help break down our sheet goods for built-ins and other carpentry projects. The saw definitely keeps the edges on our sheet good perfectly straight and has already helped with the fabrication of a few shop jigs! More carpentry videos are in the works and will almost definitely feature the Plunge saw!

Quality Materials Matter

One of our more regular lumberyards, Jordan Building Supply in Wheat Ridge, Colorado helps us find the best wood to work with for our home projects.

As a contractor that takes great pride in quality, Jasso Home Services is always looking to find the highest quality materials and supplies to build our with. When it comes to lumber, most local landscape and renovation companies make one stop at the local big box store. While this approach saves time and sometimes even a little money, quality is almost always sacrificed. This is one of the many details that separates us from the average Front Range contractor. Smaller lumber yards avoid taking shortcuts when it comes to quality and maintain their reputation with customers by offering a higher standard of select wood. Smaller batches equal better knowledge of available supplies. Lumber yard staff are devoted to knowing where, when and what products are best suited to a specific project. Big box store employees rarely possess specific knowledge about lumber and instead need to keep track of a large number of product offerings.

Whether its a basic landscape project such as a fence, gate or deck; or a finish carpentry project such as a built-in, floating shelf or crown moulding, sourcing straight and premium lumber is a must.

Jasso Home Services utilizes premium products on all of our projects and makes visiting supply houses across the Denver Metro region a first step in the building process. Shoot us an email today to discuss how our choice products can help make your home projects shine.

Proper vs Improper Tile Setting

Does your contractor install tile using proper technique?

As bathroom specialists we often speak with prospective clients about tile selection, waterproofing systems and the proper installation techniques. Tile setting goes hand in hand with bathrooms and when done correctly can add home value and protection from water damage and mold. But, when tile is installed improperly, it can lead to thousands of dollars in damage and can contribute to mold production. Recently we were called into inspect a faulty install that had tile set using what is known as the “spot bonding” technique in a large shower. This technique is often used when tile setters are attempting to place large format tiles onto a surface that has not been properly leveled and plumbed. Tile setters use spot bonding to help place tiles flush and thus avoiding “lippage” or uneven adjacent surfaces.

This technique is a disaster waiting to happen and should not be used in any circumstance. Proper tile setting involves time spent on stud/framing preparation, plumb and level backer installation and proper troweled mortar bed and back buttered tile. Spot bonding weakens adhesion, tile surface strength and over time leads to water penetration and damage in the void areas between thinset. Thinset should be combed with proper notched trowels with a minimum of 90% coverage. In addition proper thinset selection promotes adhesion to the surface of the tile that is set in place.
